Job Description
About the Role - Bid Manager The Bid Manager will be responsible for leading the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, tenders, and funding submissions. The role sits at the interface of engineering, commercial strategy, and client engagement, ensuring proposals are compliant, compelling, and aligned with Origin’s delivery capability. Key Responsibilities Bid & Proposal Development Manage and maintain leads/opportunities in CRM system. Lead the end-to-end preparation of proposals, tenders, expressions of interest, and funding applications. Interpret client requirements, ITTs, PQQs, and evaluation criteria to ensure full compliance. Develop structured, clear, and persuasive written submissions aligned to scoring frameworks. Coordinate technical, commercial, and management inputs into a single coherent proposal. Manage proposal schedules, reviews, approvals, and final submissions. Technical Solution Development Work closely with engineering and operations teams to define technically credible and deliverable solutions. Translate complex engineering concepts into clear client-facing language. Define scope, assumptions, exclusions, deliverables, and success criteria. Ensure proposed solutions align with Origin’s capability, capacity, and risk profile. Commercial & Cost Development Support development of cost models in collaboration with engineering & projects teams. Ensure consistency between technical scope, programme, and commercial pricing. Support pricing strategy, value engineering, and risk identification. Client Value & Win Strategy Articulate clear value propositions aligned to client drivers and priorities. Map Origin’s differentiators to client needs and evaluation criteria. Support capture planning, win themes, and bid strategies for priority opportunities. Governance, Quality & Continuous Improvement Ensure proposals comply with internal governance, approval processes, and brand standards. Participate in bid/No-bid, peer reviews, lessons learned, and red-team reviews to improve proposal quality. Capture lessons learned from bid outcomes to continuously improve future submissions. HSEQ Responsibilities Ensure all proposals accurately reflect Origin’s Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) commitments. Ensure safety, environmental, and quality controls are accurately represented within proposed delivery approaches. Avoid misrepresentation of certifications, competencies, or compliance status in all submissions. Job specific skills and knowledge Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Proven experience in proposal engineering, bid management, or technical sales environments. Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear written proposals. Understanding of engineering project delivery, risk, and cost drivers. High standard of written English with strong attention to structure and detail. Desirable Experience Experience within utilities, infrastructure, or technology-led engineering sectors. Experience preparing government, innovation, or research funding bids. Familiarity with framework bids, public-sector procurement, or procurement in regulated environments. General Capabilities Highly organised self-starter with strong time and priority management skills. Able to work independently while coordinating across multidisciplinary teams. Commercially aware with the confidence to challenge assumptions and improve solution clarity. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
